Prim Perfect: Issue 51 - April 2014 - Cover

Prim Perfect: Issue 51 – April 2014 – Cover

The new issue of Prim Perfect is out now!

They say that only February is the romantic month, what with Valentine’s Day and all that … but surely it’s “In the Spring a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love” as Alfred, Lord Tennyson says … and that goes for men not so young – and women of all ages too!

So in this issue we are celebrating the disappearance of winter and the coming of spring with an issue all about romance … you may even find a few stray (and unusual) Valentine thoughts have crept in too!

We’ve looked at romantic venues this month, with the lovely region of Oubliette being our Region of the Month.

Prim Perfect: Issue 51 - April 2014 - Region of the Month

I explored Oubliette – and Ode – and talked to its creator, Saiyge Lotus. Carissa Starfall has picked out ten wonderfully romantic places, while Ceejay Writer’s poem chooses ten … er … unlikely venues!

The Designer of the Month has a distinctly romantic flair too, for it is Elicio Ember of Cerridwen’s Cauldron, who is interviewed by Joonie Jatho.

In her Spotlight on Business this month, Qwis Greenwood looks at two stores that have a decidedly romantic bent.

We have three new series for 2014. Firstly, we are producing a series of room decoration articles. Each issue, Samantha Ohrberg will design a different room with items from the very best creators in Second Life – and tell you where you can get the items displayed!

Secondly, we are reflecting a popular activity in Second Life by starting a regular restaurant review column. Each month our dinners will go out to dinner at a Second Life restaurant and discuss the ambience, the food, the service – and the cost! Join us for the first of our restaurant visits.

Thirdly, we’ll be taking a look at popular games in Second Life, starting with the perennial Tiny Empires. What is this game – and why do people play? Ethan Westland finds out for us!

In our nonprofit news section, Beq Janus tells us about the launch of Relay for Life and the plans for the 2014 season – and beyond – and there’s an article on our One Billion Rising event.

In our regular features, Rosamoo Mendelsohn tells us all about those very special new awards – the Hunties! There’s exciting news from our TV shows Designing Worlds and Happy Hunting!, available on Treet TV.

There’s more in our series on working with mesh from Beq Janus, too – and a special gift for you!

Our team of talented photographers, led by Wildstar Beaumont, Samantha Ohrberg, Winona Wiefel, Judith LeFevre, and Honour McMillan, bring you some of the most artistic eye candy from across the metaverse.

The new issue of Prim Perfect is here – and packed with season goodies for you to enjoy!

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose… unless, of course, you’re holding a braai in South Africa or a barbie on the beach in Australia. Or glumly contemplating the rain in England…

But don’t worry! Because just a few clicks away in Second Life, you can enter the winter wonderland of your dreams, with snow piled thick and deep and blazing fires in welcoming homes – a time to sparkle at parties, making sure you’re as bright and dazzling as any Christmas tree ornament.

Prim Perfect’s Head Offices in the Seychelles

Prim Perfect Head Offices have changed their address!

Previously we were located in the Irish Isles. Now we have, seemingly, moved south and east the the Seychelles!

In actual fact, we were located in the Irish Isles on Irish Aran Island.  Now the Irish Isles have shifted their locationto the fringes of the Blake Sea and – in celebration, have changed their name and identity the the Seychelles Isles.  And our new location is Pointe LaRue Isle.

We still have our beautiful offices, designed by Dijodi Dubratt and landscaped by Aisling Sinclair.  And we will be holding events here over the coming months, with talks by designers and other celebrations.  We hope to be taking part in some of the events organised in the Seychelles too,

Prim Perfect Issue 48 - September 2013 - cover

Prim Perfect Issue 48 – September 2013 – cover

Welcome to our special nonprofits issue of Prim Perfect magazine, where we take a look at just some of the amazing work that is being done by and for nonprofits around the grid.

This has been a great year for one particular nonprofit in Second Life – the American Cancer Society (which is the organisation behind Relay for Life). In this centenary year, a record amount (over US$390,000) was raised in the Relay Season. To celebrate this, PJ Trenton has produced a photo essay looking at Relays – and Relay events – past and present, while Beq Janus submits a report on this year’s Relay weekend.

Prim Perfect Issue 48 - September 2013 - Winter Nightfire

Prim Perfect Issue 48 – September 2013 – Winter Nightfire

Our Designer of the Month in this issue is Winter Nightfire – Ethan Westland talks to her about her work and also explores the beautiful Survivor and Caregivers’ Camp that she created at Relay for Life weekend.

And we have another interview, too, as Inara Prey talks to Rodvik Linden, the CEO of Linden Lab, the owners and developers of the Second Life platform.

Prim Perfect Issue 48 - September 2013 - Inara Prey talks to Rodvik Linden

Prim Perfect Issue 48 – September 2013 – Inara Prey talks to Rodvik Linden

But there’s much more on nonprofits – because there are many more in Second Life, exploring different areas of needs and concerns. Joonie Jatho speaks with Gentle Heron and learns all about the work of Virtual Ability, a nonprofit that reaches out from the virtual to the real world. And Judi Newall learns all about Nonprofit Commons, the regions set up by the organisation TechSoup that have brought a wealth of nonprofit endeavours to the grid.

Ceejay Writer explores the variety of nonprofits that are on the grid, while Qwis Greenwood takes a closer look at two of the smaller nonprofits. Eva Bellambi writes about her own experiences with raising money for breast cancer – and provides a useful checklist for people who want to become involved in fundraising. Honour McMillan explores spontaneous fundraising in Second Life, while I look at issues of awareness and the role of large scale fundraising like Relay for Life. Are other nonprofits missing out here?

We also have the winner of the Fantasy Faire Short Story competition, “Red Sail at Sunset” by Deoridhe Grimsdottir.

And there are some very timely thoughts on intellectual property rights from Cain Maven.

As a special preview, we are launching the Prim Perfect Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support. We’re asking for your support – and your best cake recipes! Read all about it on Page 14.

Prim Perfect: Issue 48 - July 2013 - cover

Prim Perfect: Issue 48 – July 2013 – cover

Welcome to our special celebratory birthday issue and more of our new range of features in Prim Perfect magazine, as well as those you know and love!

Some of you may be wondering why I am posed in such a precarious position for my editorial picture (balanced on a beachball which in turn rests on a very sharp pinnacle). Others (those with a sense of history) may be grinning. That’s because I’m standing in DaBoom, the very first region created in Second Life.

Moreover, I am standing on the South East corner, which is the point from which all directions of North, South, East and West are taken on the grid.  You might say that the spot where I’m standing is the point at which 0 degrees longitude cross the Equator.  And if you want to fly there and check it for yourselves, you’ll see, in the description bar, it says, “IT ALL STARTED HERE!”

Prim Perfect: Issue 48 - July 2013 - Residents Reflect

Prim Perfect: Issue 48 – July 2013 – Residents Reflect

So why the beach ball? Well, that is an object that predates the launch of Second Life … and you have a copy of it in your inventory.  Look for the Beach Ball in your Library (it’s in the Objects folder), If you Inspect it you’ll see that it has a creation date of Tues April 30 04:41:13 2002.  And the creator is… Philip Linden.

Prim Perfect: Issue 48 - July 2013 - Places we have lost

Prim Perfect: Issue 48 – July 2013 – Places we have lost

Ceejay Writer talks more about this and about Places that have stood the test of time, dating back to the very early days of Second Life, while PJ Trenton has an elegiac photo tribute to places we have loved and lost.  But, as we all know, rumours of the demise of Second Life tend to be exagerated – and to prove it, Honour McMillan has found ten exciting new locations that prove that creativity is still very much alive here.

Prim Perfect: Issue 48 - July 2013 - An Interview with Xandi Mars

Prim Perfect: Issue 48 – July 2013 – An Interview with Xandi Mars

Of course, if you were worried about creativity, a visit to the Second Life 10th Birthday Community Celebrations should have put your mind at rest. Qwis Greenwood takes a look there – and PJ Trenton has captured the last ten years from Marianne McCann’s terrific History Walk, while Rosamoo Mendelsohn sheds some light on Hunting at the Community Celebrations!

Prim Perfect: Issue 48 - July 2013 - New Places to find

Prim Perfect: Issue 48 – July 2013 – New Places to find

But what about the people who made it all happen? Judi Newall has been talking to long term residents about their memories of Second Life … while Joonie Jatho talks to Xandi Mars about her memories of the grid. From coming out of Beta (and counting it a red letter day when there were 500 avatars on the grid simultaneously) to working with mesh, Xandio has seen it all … and she shares her experiences!

There’s a report on the Home and Garden Expo from Cinders Vale and Beq Janus brings us up-to-date with Relay for Life.

We also have the fourth in our major series on Mesh by Beq Janus who supplies some special files that you can upload and experiment with!  And Winona Wiefel supplies more information on how to develop your own home in Part 4 of our Building a Skybox series.

As always, there are details from our TV shows, Designing Worlds and Happy Hunting!, available on Treet TV.
