Tree in Wishing Well

Tree in Wishing Well

The day after Christmas – called Boxing Day in the UK – is traditionally a day for country pursuits over here.  The Boxing Meet, for example, is a huge tradition – the hounds and the hunt in distinctive dress gather outside a country pub before moving off for the hunt itself. People turn up to see the spectacle and many will then attempt to follow the hunt on foot.

Many people (myself definitely included) are happier to contemplate the sight now that the actual killing of animals has been removed from the equation. I was never of the school that believed fox hunting was an acceptable way of controlling foxes or culling deer herds; it seemed ludicrous to me that having forty or fifty people mounted on expensive horses, led by a pack of expensively bred and maintained hounds charging across the countryside in pursuit of a terrified animal running for its life and facing an incredibly grisly death could be seen as more cost effective than a farmer or a gamekeeper with a rifle. And the continuing popularity of hunts that offer thrilling (if slightly more predictable) rides is a counter to the argument that ending the hunting of live animals would be a huge financial blow to people in rural areas who depend on the hunt as a source of income.

Indeed, my suspicion is that rather more people who can afford to would want to hunt once they know that they are not going to be seen as bloodthirsty yahoos. And people can still follow the hunts. Even the hunt sabs can still be involved – making sure that the hunts stay within the law. Win win, I’d say.

Anyway, even if you don’t go hunting, many people will take the opportunity to walk off Christmas Day with a long stroll in the winter countryside.  And we would hope that it would look something like today’s jigsaw – another image from Honour Macmillan’s excellent blog – Honour’s Post Menopausal View (of Second Life) – this time sharing her  Seasonal Wishes from Second Life. Enjoy!

Funky Junk Cottage for Sway

Funky Junk Cottage for Sway

Our jigsaw today is a very special winter cottage created by Funky Junk for the special event, Together for Sway.   If you are looking for a last minute gift, or just for something really cool for yourself, the special event Together for Sway in an excellent place to visit – today and for the rest of the month.

Sway Dench has been a fixture in Second Life for years. She creates some of the cutest furniture and décor available and is famous for her Cookie Bears. Recently, she learned that there is a benign tumour in her brain and, in a few short weeks, will go into surgery to have it removed. While our dear Sway will make it through this, unfortunately her finances may not. She will be out of commission for nearly six months, and her inworld store is her only source of income.

An overview of the Together for Sway event

An overview of the Together for Sway event

The special event Together for Sway was created to help Sway deal with this difficult time. Various designers have banded together and have set out their items (new or otherwise) all in the same venue. Sway will receive 100% of the profits. There are some lovely things on offer. A gentle stroll round – and I was suddenly the iron of a lovely Christmas clock, a snowflake mobile, a winter bench in the form of a sleigh, a dreamcatcher and several stylish sweaters – plus a couple of beautiful wooden angels created by Sway herself.

In addition to supporting this event, you can help Sway by shopping at her own store, Sway’s. We’re sure that a Second Life child—or maybe someone just young at heart – would really love to get a special Cookie Bear for Christmas!

An Invitation from the Home and Garden Market

An Invitation from the Home and Garden Market

The Home and Garden Market are holding Open House (or should hat be Open Market) this Christmas.

“We are inviting anyone spending Christmas Day in Second Life to come down to the Home and Garden Market and spend Christmas Day with us,” says Heavenly Villa. “Whether with friends, family or on your own, you are welcome to come and see us, enjoy some music, dancing and dinner.”

The Market has created a special area where they have eggnog, champagne and gifts from designers under a lovely Christmas tree, all part of an attractive Christmas park at the Home and Garden Market where you can relax, dance, chat with friends around a fire, or even enjoy Christmas dinner at one of the tables (you might want to wear thermals for that – there’s a lot of snow about!).

A Pudding for the Guvnah

A Pudding for the Guvnah

Today’s Jigsaw is a picture from Qwis Greenwood’s wonderful Christmas story – A Pudding for the Guvnah. It first appeared in The Primgraph back in 2010, and we decided to reprint it in this year’s Christmas issue of Prim Perfect.  It tells the story of the Caledon Tinies and their competition to bake the ultimate Christmas pudding for the Guvnah of Caledon, Desmond Shang.

It’s a simple story, but it’s full of vivid characters, ranging from Mr Percy Ableton, the official taster, to Mrs Ava Lamington (who has won the competition for the past three years and don’t you forget it).  And there are lots of details of tiny life that come out too … watch out for waffles!

The charm of the story is re-enforced by the beautiful illustrations by PJ Trenton (one of these forming our jigsaw today) and testifying to his skill as a photographer and as a Tiny herder – no mean feat that.

The story is on Page 104 of the Christmas edition of Prim Perfect. Don’t miss it!

Prim Perfect: Issue 44 - Cover

Prim Perfect: Issue 44 – Cover

The Christmas issue of Prim Perfect is now out – and it’s filled with amazing things to see and places to go this season!

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose… unless, of course, you’re holding a braai in South Africa or a barbie on the beach in Aus. Or glumly contemplating the rain in England …

But don’t worry! Because just a few clicks away in Second Life, you can enter the winter wonderland of your dreams, with snow piled thick and deep, and blazing fires in welcoming homes – a time to sparkle at parties, making sure you’re as bright and dazzling as any Christmas tree ornament.

And so, for Christmas, Honour McMillan, Ceejay Writer and Qwis Greenwood have set out across the grid to explore some of the most beautiful winter regions they could find – and they’ve found some very unusual ones too!

Prim Perfect: Issue 44 – A Tiny Christmas Tale

We also have a couple of specials for you – a couple of heartwarming Christmas stories – The Tale of the Tinies’ Christmas Pudding by Qwis Greenwood – which proved to be very far from a tiny Christmas pudding after all!

And we have a special Christmas photo story from Wildstar Beaumont (and me), taken from the camera work of Elrik Merlin and Beq Janus. We have taken the Designing Worlds Christmas special episode and turned it into a rather special photo story … of a coal shortage, a dangerous (and stolen) book, and New Babbage’s legend of the Steam Santa …

Visiting Santa's workshop

Visiting Santa’s workshop

Today’s enchanting jigsaw is another from Honour Macmillan’s blog – Honour’s Post Menopausal View (of Second Life).  She has been exploring winter sims for a while – both for her own blog and the special issue of Prim Perfect which will be out very shortly, and today’s picture comes from her post Finding a Sympathetic Reindeer in Second Life! She paid a visit to Santa’s Workshop – and the post is an account of what she found.

The hamster, by the way, is Honour herself.  She wore that outfit to the Prim Perfect Christmas party and brought her own hamster wheel …

Prim Perfect's Christmas Party

Prim Perfect’s Christmas Party

Tonight was the last night of the SL Christmas Expo, and we celebrated by holding the Prim Perfect Christmas Party in the gorgeous Prim Perfect Pavilion, designed by Eliza Wierwight, where we have seen so many fantastic talks over the last few weeks.

We pushed back the benches, hoovered the carpet and invited Vic Mornington in to play the tunes.  And then we partied – and it was awesome.

Prim Perfect Christmas Party

Prim Perfect Christmas Party

Today is the last day of the Second Life Christmas Expo. We’ve had a great time – a wide range of terrific speakers and some fascinating conversations – so many, many thanks to all who spoke = and to the audience who came to listen!

Now on the last day, we’re going to PARTY in our gorgeous Prim Perfect Pavilion at the Expo! We’ve pushed the benches back to the wall, ordered in some extra egg nog and a new Christmas Yule log and are all set to dance – well, if not the night away, for a couple of hours later.  Victor Mornington will be our DJ from 3 – 5pm – we hope to see you all there!

We’ll also be holding the draw for the Quest in the last issue of Prim Perfect, so someone will be 5.000 Lindens richer by the end of the party!
