Auryn Beorn at the Home and Garden Expo

Auryn Beorn at the Home and Garden Expo

Meet Auryn Beorn of Black Tulip, Wednesday 17th September at 2pm SLT in the Prim Perfect Castle.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
See the full list of our talks here:
Schedule of Talks
And don’t forget – every day at 4pm SLT, we will be holding a lantern release from the ramparts of the Prim Perfect castle. It’s a short time for quiet reflection, for thinking of those we have lost, for celebrating those who are still with us.
The best place to watch will probably the stone circle overlooking the castle. And after the lantern release, while you are here, you can also explore the element of Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem, The Lady of Shalott, which Aisling Sinclair has incorporated in this beautiful build.
Home and Garden Expo 2014, benefitting RFL of SL, opened today, September 16, and will run through to the 28th.
2014 Home and Garden Expo
2014 Home and Garden Expo
Spread over nine sims, HGE features the finest in Second Life Home and Garden design product and creator tools. Over 85 participating creators have joined HGE, one of the first mega-events of the 2015 Relay For Life fundraising drive in Second Life.
This year’s HGE is supported by nine Platinum Sponsors and eight Gold Sponsors. It also includes, for the first time, a comprehensive shopping guide listing all donation items, new releases, hunt, raffle and gatcha items. New rules and a new layout for HGE reduces lag and provides ample display space for each of the participants’ products.
We will be holding a series of talks and discussions with designers, starting tomorrow, 17th September – and more details of this will be published shortly. Do visit our Lady of Shalott Castle (created by Aisling Sinclair!)
We will also be celebrating the relaunch of Prim Perfect magazine and the launch of our new blog and website on Thursday 18th September – so watch out for more details!
And we’ll be broadcasting our next two Designing Worlds shows from the Expo too!
And every day, at 4pm, we will be holding a lantern release from the ramparts of the castle.
The Rezzies
The 2014 HGE also features the debut of the Rezzie Awards. The Rezzie Awards are specifically designed to honour the excellent work of the designers, creators, coders, and builders who make Second Life so visually stunning and interactive, and who inspire roleplay, photography, machinima, and so much more.
Nominations were open to the public through September 12th. The awards jury then selected 4 nominees to represent each of 35 categories. The nominated works are listed on the website and visitors are invited to vote for their choices there. (HGE Staff members will be excluded from the final list of nominees, and are not eligible for awards.) Voting commenced on September 14th, and will remain open through September 27th.The winners will be announced just prior to the close of Home Expo on September 28th!
The latest episode of Designing Worlds – where we look back at the stunning builds that we saw at the Relay for Life of Second Life weekend at the end of July – is now on the web.
Sadly, we only had time to visit a few of the great builds, and talk to a small number of the talented creators behind them – we just wish we could have shown everything. Thankfully, our wonderful photographer Wildstar Beaumont was on hand to ensure that we have many more on our slide show!
Yes, Designing Worlds is back for a whole new season – and we’re inviting you to to join us today, Monday 8th September at 2pm SLT at the Designing Worlds studio in Garden of Dreams as we look back at the stunning builds that we saw at the Relay for Life of Second Life weekend at the end of July.
Sadly, we only had time to visit a few of the great builds, and talk to a small number of the talented creators behind them – we just wish we could have shown everything. Thankfully, our wonderful photographer Wildstar Beaumont was on hand to ensure that we have many more on our slide show!
Wildstar and Saffia were both thrilled to be awarded two of the first ever Community Champion Awards at the Wrap Up for this year’s Relay for Life of Second Life. The other recipients of this award were Stingray Raymaker and Daniel Voyager. Saffia says: “That’s very awesome company for me to be keeping! I was so privileged to receive this award – working with Relay for Life of Second Life is not just a pleasure, it’s a privilege.”
Saffia also won another award – Smell the Roses – The Clown Awards – for her Twerking for a Cause. This was a moment at the telethon captured by Petlove Petshop. She was wearing my dinkie avatar (a cute little cat) for one of the hours and someone mentioned the fact that Saffia could twerk as a dinkie. So it was agreed that if the telethon team raised 10,000 Lindens (the Second Life virtual currency – it would be about US440) by the top of the hour, the dinkie would twerk. By the top of the hour, people watching the telethon had donated a total of 22,000 lindens (around US$900) and … the dinkie twerked.
And in other video news, Elrik and Saffia were challenged to the Ice Bucket challenge by Nikki Mathieson. You can see the results below!
Saffia and Elrik decided to donate their challenge to the charity Water Aid. Saffia says – “Here in the UK, it’s become customary to choose which charity to donate your Ice Bucket challenge to. While we are both supportive of the work done by ALS, we decided that we would like to raise awareness of a charity connected with clean water – something we wish as a blessing for people at the end of every Designing Worlds show. We’re therefore making our donation to Water Aid – and you can read here about the impact that Ice Bucket Challenges are having on the work of this vitally important nonprofit. And we’re proud to say no real water was wasted in our taking the challenge!*”
This is a fun and beautiful start to our new season – make sure that you don’t miss it!
Or – if you can’t attend in person – tune in to the web at 2pm SLT on Monday for a showing on SLartist or on Treet – or catch it later in the week on our shows page on the Treet.tv web site at http://treet.tv/shows/designingworlds, on the SLArtist.com channel, the Aview TV Designing Worlds channel – or on the Designing Worlds blog.
*That’s because we did it on Saffia’s dock and all the water went straight back into the lake.
Sign up for our talks!
Following the success of our discussion / interview programmes at the Home and Garden Expos for 2011, 2012 and 2013 … and the Christmas Expos and the Birthdays … well, you get the picture!  At the 7th Home and Garden Expo, running from September 16th to 28th, we are planning a further series of talks with designers and landscapers.
These talks will take place inside our very special poetically inspired castle on the Prim Perfect sponsored region. But we’ll be telling you more about that later!
We’re planning to host events at 2pm (and, if needed, 5pm) every day.  If you would really LOVE to give a presentation, but can’t make that time, contact us and we will see if we can fit you in.
We are happy to host talks, presentations, interviews, question and answer sessions.  It’s an opportunity for designers to share ideas, for people to meet their favourite creators, for communities to come together and talk about their culture and ideas.  We’re very open to hosting what YOU want to tell us about!
If you would like to be a part of our programme at the Expo, please complete the form below with your topic and preferred dates and times. We will try to fit in as many people as we can!
