Sadly, with the end of Season 1, the time has come to bring the inworld games for The Blackened Mirror to an end.

The games that run purely on the web will continue, but we will be ending the games that are played on the Second Life grid at midnight on December 31st 2012. Announcing this now will give you the opportunity to play any of the games that you might have missed.

Why are you closing the inworld games?
Region and parcel owners have been very generous both in donating gifts and in hosting our prims for the games. But they need the freedom and flexibility to change their areas, which could invalidate or even remove clues in the games. If we are doing this for one area, it seemed right to do it for all, so that there should be no confusion.

Why are you keeping the web games open?
Although the first season of The Blackened Mirror is now over, the episodes continue to be available through The Blackened Mirror and Happy Hunting websites, and through The Blackened Mirror page at Treet TV and The Blackened Mirror You Tube site. So it’s possible that even at a period when we are not launching regular new episodes, people might be coming to the show for the first time and – if they are – we want them to learn that The Blackened Mirror is more than a TV show (and more than a game). We hope that keeping the web games open will give people who discover the show the fun of also discovering the challenges!

We’ll be republishing details of all the web games shortly. But for now … make sure you get the last of the information about The Blackened Mirror inworld games in our Fun Noir section!

The Seraph Club in Seraph City

The Seraph Club in Seraph City

At the end of season party for The Blackened Mirror, we held draws for all special games that we have been running throughout Season 1. The prize for each of these games is a chance to appear as a character in the world of The Blackened Mirror, not on the show, but referenced in The Blackened Mirror materials!

We will not reveal answers here, as people will still be able to play the games on the web!

The questions (and winners) were as follows:

From Episode 1 – the A Day in the Life of Harland Quinn game
As part of the clue in the diner (where we showed a copy of The Daily Prim newspaper, with its racing news), we asked:
What links Quinn’s bet with a Broadway musical?

The very first person to get this right won the chance to appear in The Blackened Mirror world. This was Kyle Beckett, who chose to become a good character and a reporter on The Daily Prim newspaper.
But we continued the game till the end of the season, and the winner was:
Chris Collins

Harland Quinn - Private Investigator

Harland Quinn – Private Investigator

From Episode 2: Secrets from Quinn’s past
This game was first launched at the HP Lovecraft Festival in Second Life, where a special playbill was located. It was subsequently included as part of the jigsaw game associated with Episode 3. We asked:
Tell us the connection between the poster, the newspaper report and a famous Hollywood film about the world of theater …
No-one has been able to answer this question correctly!

From Episode 4: Death in Velvet Game
In this game, readers (and later listeners) were able to find the first three parts of Death in Velvet, a special Harland Quinn short story written by David Abbot, the author of The Blackened Mirror. They then had to tell us who the murderer was (and how they dunnit too!).
The winner was:
Orpheus Angkam

From Episode 4: The Link between the Seekers of Truth and a famous 1930s novel (and film)
This game asked players to find outwhat linked Episode 1.4 of The Blackened Mirror with a famous novel of the 1930s, made into a very famous film, by the author of Goodbye Mr Chips and Random Harvest.
The winner was:
Garnet Psaltery

From Episode 5: The Police Report game
This was part of an inworld game that asked people to trace copies of the police report that revealed what had been happening in Seraph City while Quinn had disappeared after the Unpleasantness at the Java Jive. One of the places people visited on the Hunt (or through the inworld quiz) was a rather exclusive apartment block, which had a doorman … and we asked:
Why is the name Carlton Garfield a very appropriate one for a doorman?
The winner was:
Maeve Everest

Congratulations to all our prize winners!

We will be contacting Chris, Orpheus, Garnet and Maeve shortly to find out whether they want to be good or bad characters and how they can best be incorporated into the world of The Blackened Mirror!

Harland Quinn is taking Miss Alleyn ... Fishing

Harland Quinn is taking Miss Alleyn … Fishing

At the end of Episode 1.5 of The Blackened Mirror, Harland Quinn tells Alais Alleyn to get what she needs – and that he will need more ammo; they’re going fishing.

But what other arrangements does Quinn make as he plans to leave Seraph City?

Now we can tell you …

Before leaving Seraph City, Harland Quinn wrote a number of letters and sent them to various friends, telling them where they might find the gifts he had left for them. And you can find the letters (on the web) and the associated gifts (inworld).

You’ll find full instructions on how to play this game, and the first clue here.

By the end of the game, you should have collected a range of gifts (and thank you to Elizabeth Tinsley for a wonderful gift – and to Zander Greene for not only writing the letters, but also for crafting a number of gifts!) but you should also learn something more about Harland Quinn and his relationships with the people around him. And that, for Blackened Mirror fans, is the best prize of all!

What messages is Quinn leaving behind in Seraph City?

NB this game is currently only available for Second Life players; a web only version will be released next weekend.

Quinn and Co face a mystery

Quinn and Co face a mystery

There’s more fun noir associated with the latest episode of The Blackened Mirror with more puzzles and games.

Remember those suspicious types who were after Quinn, Alais and Biggins in the Java Jive in Episode 2? Are they the same ones as the palookas who busted into to Quinn’s office (prior to Episode 5)? Our new game gives you the chance to find out – and win prizes too!

And there’s a special Bonus Prize too.

Incident Report logbook - what you are looking for in Second Life!

Incident Report logbook – what you are looking for in Second Life!

What It’s About

The police have had reports of a disturbance at the Java Jive, and they’re going to look into it.

As they travel across Seraph City, they interview witnesses, who give them information about the suspects – and also give them clues about the next location.

Unfortunately, through a bizarre carelessness, they manage to leave a copy of their reports behind in each location, where you can find and read them – either by exploring the locations in Second Life, or – on the web – by answering some questions

1) In Second Life

Objective
Find the police reports.

Each of the reports is in a special file/book hidden in five key locations. Your job is to travel around Seraph City, find the reports and bring them back to the police station.

Once you are there, if you can enter a codeword in the special chest, you’ll gain a reward dear to the heart of any good police officer. Each report you find will contain one letter in the password – when you reach the police station, just click on the chest and give the correct password (the letters you discovered, arranged to form a word) and you will get your reward.

And another reward is you get to read the reports – and find out more about the story!

Prize
A special treat for a good investigator!

Hunt Object
The black police report book (see illustration).

How to start
Well, as the start of the investigation is a fight in the Java Jive, that’s a good place to start your investigations (and find the first report)! And the first report will point you to a second location …

~~~~~~~~~~~~
On the Web
Objective
To find copies of the police reports about the investigation into the suspicious men at the Java Jive.
Prize
A special movie poster for The Blackened Mirror
What it’s about
This is a game that fills in some of the background to the story. What happened in Seraph City once Quinn had left so unexpectedly with Alais Alleyn and Mr Biggins? Now you can find out!
What you need to do
Start with these game instructions which finish with a question that – answered correctly – will lead you to the first police report – and interview with the owner of the Java Jive, Ceejay Writer.
From there, questions on classic American detective fiction will lead your further into the investigation and more witness statements.
Trouble at the Java Jive
Bonus Prize
This time, when you discover one report (either inworld or on the web), we’ll be asking you a special bonus question to win your chance to appear in the cast and background stories of The Blackened Mirror!
Prize
If you win the draw of all the correct answers sent in by December 4th 2012, you could win a chance to become a character in The Blackened Mirror! Villain or hero/ine, you will get to choose!
What you need to do
Send your answer to the question to info@theblackenedmirror.com. All correct answers we receive by December 4thth 2012 will be entered in a special draw.
Episode 1.4 of The Blackened Mirror won’t be out until next Friday – but we have more Fun Noir for the weekend.
Now there’s a chance to hear Death in Velvet on the web!
Death in Velvet is a radio play, broadcast in four parts, taken from a short story by David Abbot, the writer of The Blackened Mirror.
Harland Quinn - Private Investigator
Harland Quinn – Private Investigator
It’s a Harland Quinn story, set in the noir environment of Seraph City, and it’s a taste of the classic detective fiction of the nineteen thirties. It comes with two special guest stars, Peter Jurasik, the well known American actor (Londo Mollari in Babylon 5, Sid the Snitch in Hill Street Blues) and Juliet Cesario (Belldandy in Oh! My Goddess).
And, of course, it also stares Scott Simpson as Harland Quinn. You can read more about Scott’s other work as an actor here.
Once again a dame walks into Quinn’s office … and this can mean only one thing – trouble!
Death in Velvet – Part 1
You can hear Part 1 here … but if you want to hear Peter Jurasik in Part 2 – well, that’s where the Fun Noir starts with a little quiz, all about The Blackened Mirror.
Episodes 3 and 4 of Death in Velvet will be available shortly. Watch this space!
