Quinn and Co face a mystery

Quinn and Co face a mystery

There’s more fun noir associated with the latest episode of The Blackened Mirror with more puzzles and games.

Remember those suspicious types who were after Quinn, Alais and Biggins in the Java Jive in Episode 2? Are they the same ones as the palookas who busted into to Quinn’s office (prior to Episode 5)? Our new game gives you the chance to find out – and win prizes too!

And there’s a special Bonus Prize too.

Incident Report logbook - what you are looking for in Second Life!

Incident Report logbook – what you are looking for in Second Life!

What It’s About

The police have had reports of a disturbance at the Java Jive, and they’re going to look into it.

As they travel across Seraph City, they interview witnesses, who give them information about the suspects – and also give them clues about the next location.

Unfortunately, through a bizarre carelessness, they manage to leave a copy of their reports behind in each location, where you can find and read them – either by exploring the locations in Second Life, or – on the web – by answering some questions

1) In Second Life

Objective
Find the police reports.

Each of the reports is in a special file/book hidden in five key locations. Your job is to travel around Seraph City, find the reports and bring them back to the police station.

Once you are there, if you can enter a codeword in the special chest, you’ll gain a reward dear to the heart of any good police officer. Each report you find will contain one letter in the password – when you reach the police station, just click on the chest and give the correct password (the letters you discovered, arranged to form a word) and you will get your reward.

And another reward is you get to read the reports – and find out more about the story!

Prize
A special treat for a good investigator!

Hunt Object
The black police report book (see illustration).

How to start
Well, as the start of the investigation is a fight in the Java Jive, that’s a good place to start your investigations (and find the first report)! And the first report will point you to a second location …

~~~~~~~~~~~~
On the Web
Objective
To find copies of the police reports about the investigation into the suspicious men at the Java Jive.
Prize
A special movie poster for The Blackened Mirror
What it’s about
This is a game that fills in some of the background to the story. What happened in Seraph City once Quinn had left so unexpectedly with Alais Alleyn and Mr Biggins? Now you can find out!
What you need to do
Start with these game instructions which finish with a question that – answered correctly – will lead you to the first police report – and interview with the owner of the Java Jive, Ceejay Writer.
From there, questions on classic American detective fiction will lead your further into the investigation and more witness statements.
Bonus Prize
This time, when you discover one report (either inworld or on the web), we’ll be asking you a special bonus question to win your chance to appear in the cast and background stories of The Blackened Mirror!
Prize
If you win the draw of all the correct answers sent in by December 4th 2012, you could win a chance to become a character in The Blackened Mirror! Villain or hero/ine, you will get to choose!
What you need to do
Send your answer to the question to info@theblackenedmirror.com. All correct answers we receive by December 4thth 2012 will be entered in a special draw.
Trouble in the Java Jive!
Trouble in the Java Jive!
There’s been trouble at the Java Jive in Seraph City … something has sent the statue of a burlesque dancer crashing onto a table.  Or was it someone who did that? Certainly there’s a man down – unsconscious on the floor. Amd a beautiful woman dashes forward to grab something from the neck of the statue … something precious to her. Meanwhile, the patrons of the Java Jive stand around, gasping in horror …
Yes, today’s jigsaw is a picture from the treet.tv series, The Blackened Mirror. And it’s connected to the the fun noir game that’s starting this weekend.
You see, that trouble in the Jave Jive sparked a police investigation that has been going on behind the scenes while our main characters were off having adventures elsewhere. And now you can follow that investigation, and maybe win some prizes …
And, in the mean-time of course, you can do the jigsaw!
The new episode of The Blackened Mirror contains a whole heap more puzzles and games … and this time a jigsaw quest for information too – and whether you play on the web or in the virtual world of Second Life, there’s a special prize to be won!
One important element of our games this week is to locate the destination that Quinn, Alais and Mr B will be heading for at the end of the episode.
How do you do this?
Mr Biggins makes a delivery
Mr Biggins makes a delivery
Well, there were two clues in the episode itself – firstly, the gift that was delivered to Alais (and which Mr Biggins delivered to the Library). And the second is her words to them both at the end of the episode – “It’s time to stir the Cauldron!” Combine those two elements, and a judicious targeted search may well be your friend.
Or there’s another way to find out – by completing our web quest, which this week asks you to complete a series of online jigsaw puzzles that leads you – through images taken from the episode – to the destination you are seeking.
As you solve each jigsaw, you’ll see that the web location of the next forms part of the completed picture – you’ll need to type that into your browser!
The first of these jigsaws is located here – and you may find they get tougher as you go on!
But there’s more.
On the web
By completing the web quest, you’ll be given a link where you can find out more information about Harland Quinn – and a chance to enter a competition that will allow YOU to be name-checked as a character in The Blackened Mirror.
Kyle Beckett won the competition in the Fun Noir of Episode 1 and was given a chance to become a character – either a heroic or a villainous character. Kyle is now – in the world of The Blackened Mirror – a leading reporter on The Daily Prim and Millie’s second favourite customer at the Java Jive, as he always leaves a good tip (no need to ask who Millie’s FAVOURITE customer is!). Look out for mentions of Kyle across The Blackened Mirror site and games.
In Second Life
Once you have found the destination, we have a real treat for you with this episode!
Harland Quinn - Private Investigator
This time you’ll find out about one of Quinn’s cases if you follow the trail!
There is a hunt that extends through the region – one clue will lead to a clue for another – but each of the first three clues will contain something rather special – the first three parts of an exclusive Harland Quinn short story – Death in Velvet – written by our brilliant writer, David Abbot. Here’s an extract:
It was a rainy day in the City of Angels when Winona Knight came through my door. Dolores had gone out to get something secretarial and I was dozing the afternoon away behind my desk after another long night at McKenzie’s saloon with Ed Pearse. Looking up at her made me wonder if I was still dreaming: she was the kind of woman who could make you think that, especially with that halo of blonde hair lit from behind, and when she hit me with a smile I just couldn’t help smiling back. The golden hair might have been saying angel, but the red dress she was wearing gave rise to thoughts from somewhere else entirely.
And then you find clue 4 … and that is something rather different. Firstly, it contains some gorgeous gifts, created by one of the best known creatives in Second Life. And then it also contains … well … let’s leave that as a surprise, shall we?
We’ll just say the story comes in four parts … and there’s more than one way of discovering the solution to the mystery!
Ready to start? Head for the the jigsaws – or take another look at Episode 3
