In fact we get a little Greedy Greedy in today’s show as we explore the world of tabletop gaming in Second Life!

Greedy Greedy!

Greedy Greedy!

Join us today, Monday 14th April at 2pm at the Designing Worlds studio in Garden of Dreams for a special viewing party of today’s show as we visit KR Engineering to talk to Karsten Routledge, the creator of Greedy Greedy, probably the most popular board game in Second Life, with over 3000 games played every day.

Karsten talks to us not only about Greedy Greedy but about other tabletop games that he has created – some based on real world games, ancient and modern.

And then we play a game of Greedy Greedy with some friends and teach Elrik how to play, as Karsten offers some special strategic tips for game play!

Join us at 2pm for a end to our current season (and don’t worry – we will actually be back at the end of April).

There will be a meeting today, Tuesday 8th April at 2pm SLT, to plan our Designing Worlds special tribute to Dirk Talamasca, who passed away at the end of March. We’ll be holding it in the Designing Worlds studio on Garden of Dreams.

Remembering Dirk

Remembering Dirk

We hope to pull together footage of Dirk from various shows, not just Designing Worlds.  If you have any photos of Dirk you’d be willing to share for the show, please send them to Saffia Widdershins either in-world or by email.

And we’d also like to hear from people who knew him and who would like to take part in the show.  Our hope is that we can make this a lasting tribute to someone who was very special to a lot of people.

If you would like to be part of the show but can’t make the meeting, contact Saffia inworld or by email.

Filming for the show itself will be on Thursday 10th April, starting at 1pm, and the show will be broadcast on April 21st.

Join us today, Monday 7th April at 2pm at the Designing Worlds studio in Garden of Dreams for a special viewing party of today’s show as we visit the Linden Endowment for the Arts to learn about the new volunteer program to help visitors, find out about the structure of the LEA – and visit a few art installations as well!

Firstly we meet up with Oberon Onmura, Artist and LEA Committee Member, Honour McMillan, LEA Committee Member and leader of the volunteer program, and JMB (Jo) Balogh, a LEA Volunteer. They tell us about the LEA, and the new program – and what being a volunteer really means! There’s an explanation of how the regions work – and we learn about ambitious plans to expand the nature of Arts covered.

And then we visit three remarkable installations created by artists who are near the beginning of their five month residencies.

At The Creature from the Black Lagoon, we talk to the artist Livio Korobase, with Slatan Dryke translating from the Italian for us.

Then we visit a work in progress – The Garden of Earthly Delights, inspired by the painting by Hieronymous Bosch, and created in Second Life by Tomm Pye. It’s a great chance to see an evolving work – something that the artists at the LEA often choose to share.

And finally we visit an installation that is evolving in a different way, in a series of chapters, as we look in on The {Lost} Garden Of Sundarya Lahari and talk to the artist Xineohp Guisse (who tells us how and why he got his remarkable name!).

Designing Worlds’ visit to the fascinating project at the University of Arkansas region that recreates Johnny Cash‘s boyhood home, as part of a broader look at the effects of the Depression in the state, and some of the routes from the rural poverty that began there.

Painter Merriman, the well-known designer, has created many of the builds here, and he takes us through many of these as we explore a really fascinating social history project, learning not only about Johnny Cash’s boyhood home, but also about the New Deal community of Dyess and the Southern Tenant Farmers Union (which now houses the Southern Tenant Famers Museum).
