Archive for April, 2008

We have heard a number of reports that the recent asset server problems have put quite a dent in our clients’ sales in the last month or so. Since we are dedicated to supporting your success, we’ve hunted down some suggestions for propping up your customers’ confidence in buying your products. If you have other ideas, let’s help each other out by noting them in the comments below.

  • It appears that avi-to-avi exchanges are working, but vendor sales are plagued with losses. So if your volume is low enough and your or your staff are inworld a fair amount of the time, consider offering the option of contacting you directly for personal payment and delivery.
  • Encourage buyers to check their inventories immediately after each vendor purchase and to contact you if they encounter a problem.
  • If you offer a “pay by PayPal” option, post a sign prominently near your vendors and offer a notecard with clear instructions.
  • Likewise, if your items are avaiable at SL Exchange or OnRez, don’t assume that your customers will know that. Put easy-to-rez signs around your shop with the information that will keep them from just turning on their heels and looking somewhere else.

Remember, communicating a willingness to ensure your customers’ satisfaction will go a long way toward boosting sales and increasing buyers’ loyalty.

Best wishes for your ongoing success, from the staff at Prim Perfect.

A tip of the chapeau to Qalabah Quintus for brainstorming with us.

Gospel Voom, following in the footsteps of centuries of honoured craftsmen, has created a cathedral.

Cathedral main altar

And what a work of art it is! Based on New Orleans’ St. Louis Cathedral, it is majestic yet airy, with beautiful stained glass and ceiling frescoes. Unlike the darker, castle-inspired basilicas one might have seen here and there, it is flooded with light, allowing a full appreciation of the soaring Gothic arches. But don’t be fooled into thinking that detailing will have been sacrificed for big-look impact; even the less noticeable features, like the outside spires, are given meticulous attention.

Cathedral ceiling

This post has been awaiting the launch of the rest of the sim, and it was worth the wait. The whole community is a worthy accompaniment to the craftsmanship of the cathedral. But don’t be intimidated by the classic beauty here, fun lovers, Orleans Blues is a hopping place. Beautifully designed retail stores line the central square, and the New Preservation Hall plays (what else?) jazz and blues worth kicking off your shoes for.

The glorious GalaxyMeta Makeover is on today – Sunday, 13th April at the SLCN studios in Northpoint – and everyone is welcome.

This week our designer is Zandi Moe of Organised Confusion, and we’ll be making over a VIP cabin on the fabulous three-sim cruise liner The Galaxy, designed and created by Bill Stirling.

The programme is presented by Saffia Widdershins, the Editor of Prim Perfect Magazine – she’ll be talking to Bill Stirling in the studio about the Galaxy, his other builds and his plans.

And we’ll be showing you something of life on the Galaxy – and a very special Galaxy gift will be given to everyone in the audience for the show.

The show starts at 12 noon SLT, but you should be there by 11.45 to make sure of getting a seat.

We’ll see you there!

Once again there’s a Treasure Hunt in the current edition of Prim Perfect. There are FOURTEEN stores taking part this month – and you have to visit the store to discover the prim count of each of the pieces featured in the magazine. You’ll find instructions on how to find the prim count for an item on our Treasure Hunt Information page.

The Arne Jacobsen Rattan Chair is the item to find this month. The chair is based on a circa 1930 design by Danish architect Arne Jacobsen. It can be found at Shop Doma.dk, the in-world presence of the company JV Holdings, and the work of SL designer Alias Alcott. The chair has a natural and airy look to it, and I had to try it out. Sitting in it was very relaxing, and it would work well with a heavy novel to read or an afternoon of daydreaming. I know exactly where to place it within my imaginary dream house.

Another item which caught my eye was the bright flower table and chairs. The round table has a brushed metal base with bold red and pink flowers on the tabletop. The chairs are sold separately and are based on Verner Panton’s K1 Cone Chair, designed in 1958. The set is bright, bold, and a lot of fun. Take a look around the store and learn a bit about Danish modern design.

For the treasure hunt competition, find as many prim counts as you can for the magazine’s treasure hunt items, and send the details to primperfect@gmail.com, including your avatar name and an answer to the tiebreaker question (which you’ll find in the magazine on Page 72). The person to find the most prim counts will win – and in the event of a tie, we will use the tie-breaker. Also – you don’t necessarily have to find every prim count to win a prize! Just find as many as you can. You have until April 20th, 2008, to send in your entry.

Gaiety - exterior

I’m in love with the Gaiety Theatre in Caledon Penzance. Persephone Gallindo is a masterful texturist, and she’s created a Gay 90’s structure in a beautiful, opulent style that is elegant rather than gaudy. When the location isn’t hosting an event, you can stream archival vaudeville footage onstage. I’m tempted to schedule the occasional business appointment there just to relax in a velvet seat while enjoying the eye candy, but I don’t want to transgress on Miss Gallindo’s generous hospitality.

You can see many of her expert textures on a number of period structures throughout the grid, but her own shop, Architextura, is remarkably understated. I would love to see her stretch her creative legs for the retail market to increase the visibility and appreciation of the key role played by texture creators in world.

Without further ado, here are some more views:

This time we’re looking for a Birch Drinks Cabinet within True North Designs. Dellybean North has built a curved cabinet out of light, almost silvery, birch wood complimented by a slate blue top. The curved pewter handles mirror the curve of the cabinet. Inside it is stocked with a variety of drinks which it will dispense with a touch and a menu. The texture of the cabinet is carried around to the back side of the piece so it is not limited to being placed against the wall. Did I mention it was very low prim? Take a look and write that number down.

Looking around, I found more beautiful birch wood. This new compact kitchen was created with birch cabinets and green marble counters. In many houses, the kitchen becomes the gathering place of the home. This design allows family or guests to hang out while you work on a meal. The fridge, dishwasher, sink, and lights all work with a touch. According to the informational notecard, Delly is planning a cooking animation to be attached to the stovetop as well. Hidden within the stained glass door at the end of the counter is a drink cabinet, dispensing the same selection of drinks as our featured item. The stools are purchased separately so you can select the right quantity and seat covering to match your individual style. Each stool has a choice of animations available through a menu. This is a wonderful item for the person who loves to entertain.

New to the Treasure Hunt, but not new to readers of this blog or followers of Meta Makeover, is The Loft. On Meta Makeover, Saffia Widdershins talked with Bethany Heart about how the group redesigned the interior of Skate Foss’ beach home. The Loft’s designers (Bethany Heart and Camille Desmoulins) recently celebrated the grand opening of their store on their own sim with a wonderful party. Their designs are clean and modern, and the new store showcases them wonderfully. While exploring their store, be on the lookout for their Treasure Hunt item – a pillar candle holder. They’re available in large and small sizes, ready to accent your home decor.

While the pillar holder is beautifully textured and holds up well on close inspection, it does not give a good sense of The Loft’s style. Here is their Braedski collection with sofa, mini tables, and media armoire. The items are available individually or the set can be purchased at a discounted price. Bold colors and clean lines are hallmarks of their style, but this still has an organic feel. Sink yourself into the sofa for a little while. The animations are hidden within the pillows. I gave them a try and was happy to find them skirt-friendly. Enjoy the new store, but don’t forget to get the prim count of the candle holder.
