OBR in SL - What Next?

OBR in SL – What Next?

The One Billion Rising event was an inspiration for people all around the world. Here in Second Life, the event was a success – both for those taking part, and for the discussion that followed.

Now we want to build on that – but how? How can we translate the energy and enthusiasm into progress in continuing to work on this issue?

In the real world, different ideas are being discussed.  For example, there’s the Guardian’s campaign to discover inspirational people and projects. Stella Creasy, the Member of the UK Parliament who made sure that the issue was debated there on V-Day, is pressing forward with the campaign  to ensure that every child in Britain is taught about consent and respecta campaign with cross party support. And requests are being made for submissions for a planned documentary.

And in Second Life too, people are asking how the campaign can be moved forward.

Join us at 2pm SLT today, Monday25th February, for our new episode of Designing Worlds at our studio in Garden of Dreams as we visit the beautiful estate of the Coeurs, sometimes called the Duchy, a series of fourteen French baroque regions, each named after a specific region in France.

This is, however, not the highly formalised world of the Court, nor the seething poverty that led to the French Revolution, but a gentle and gracious style of rural living, with the bourgeoisie and the haut bourgeoisie living in beautiful surroundings with beautiful small towns and elegant homes, graced by the occasional chateau.

We are joined on the show by two of the owners of the estate, His Grace the Duke and one of the two Duchesses of the Coeurs – but we have permission to introduce them by their less formal names, as Bedrich Panacek and SkyeRyder Varriale!

In their company, we explore museums, canals, courtyards and carriage rides – because the Duchy has one of the most elegant systems of transportation anywhere in Second Life, as residents can order carriages to come to their door and take them anywhere in the estate. Or – like Elrik – some might prefer to travel by boat and see the amazing locks, based of locks designed by Leonardo da Vinci.

It makes for a fun and fascinating show – so do come and join us at 2pm.

Or – if you can’t attend in person – tune in at 2pm SLT on Monday for the live show on http://treet.tv/live – or catch it later in the week on our shows page on the Treet.tv web site at http://treet.tv/shows/designingworlds – our very own version of the iPlayer!

A Street in the Duchy

A Street in the Duchy

Today’s jigsaw is a little preview of the location that we are visiting on today’s Designing Worlds show – more details to come later!

We are visiting the Coeurs region, sometimes called the Duchy, an estate based on 18th century France.

And today’s jigsaw gives you a glimpse of one of the pretty streets to be found there.

Caledon Highlands

Caledon Highlands

Today’s jigsaw once more comes from Honour McMillan’s excellent blog, Honour’s Post Menopausal View (of Second Life). Today she has been visiting Caledon which is launching its seventh birthday celebrations – you can read about it on Honour’s blog.

I think my first birthday in Caledon was the Second – I remember there were fireworks the length of the Firth (the great waterway that stretches from Caledon Mayfair to Caledon Sound) and one year I had a firework dislay on the roof of the Primgraph offices in Caledon Glengarry.  The Primgraph’s glory days are sadly gone now, and it currently operates out of a shed in Caledon Penzance …

I hope to take in some of the later events myself – there will be two Balls on Sunday 24th February, hosted by Gabrielle Riel. Or, like Honour, you could simply explore this fascinating land that is still thriving after seven amazing years.

Flying on Araxes

Flying on Araxes

Well, yes, it’s another Araxes picture.  But I’ve discovered that it really does make the most awesome location for photos.

Here. for example, is flying in the deserts – which could – with a few adjustments – make the cover of a scifi franchise tie-in novel.

The skin I’m wearing comes from Alpha Tribe* – Honour McMillan introduced me to them, and they are beautiful, detailed, and perfect for the Farscape look that I was after.  The craft I’m flying is adorable – it comes from  DME Gadgets Factory in Port Caledon, and it’s created by DarlingMonster Ember.

So here’s the jigsaw …

*Be warned – the link takes you in underwater at Alpha Tribe  – you need to climb into the sky to find the skins.
