You may have seen the molehill on Hope 2 – it’s pretty hard to miss!

If you’ve ventured inside (and we strongly suggest that you do!) you’ll find some fun dioramas of recent build by the Moles.

Who are the Moles?

The Moles are talented residents who are contracted by Linden Lab to join the Linden Department of Public Works (LDPW) and to work on builds that are, by and large, publicly accessible. They create the new user experiences; games and builds to celebrate the different season (Winterfair, the Halloween Tour, for example); special game regions (like one at the centre of the new Horizons regions, or Paleoquest) or simply things that are fun to find and explore, ranging from ancient castles to Greek villages to underwater ruins.

You can recognise Moles … by the fact that they have the surname “Mole”.

And now you can meet some Moles – and Patch Linden too – for yourselves at today’s talk in the Theatre on Hope 5 at 1pm SLT today. Please note that the Talk today is an hour earlier than usual.

Join us at 2pm SLT today, Monday 29th May, for the new episode of Designing Worlds at our studio in Garden of Dreams as we pay the first of two visits to the Home and Garden Expo, held annually in support of Relay for Life.

We look at the Prim Perfect/Designing Worlds build, created for us by Eliza Wierwight; the special display created by the Moles of the Linden Department of Public Works; the amazing pirate ships created by Max Graf; the beautiful house created by SkyeRider Varriale; the work of a new designer at the Expo, Lilycraft; and finally we talk to Kaerri Rae, the main organiser of the Home and Garden part of the Expo, before taking a look at the special lantern release that happens every day of the Faire.

LEA4 – Poetry of the planets – Mercury

The latest episode of Designing Worlds – a visit the Linden Endowment for the Arts – is now on the web!

The Linden Endowment for the Arts (known as the LEA) is a group of 29 regions, donated by Linden Lab to the residents for the promotion of the arts on the grid, and managed by residents. There are two groups of regions – the Core Regions, which consist of nine regions that are generally occupied for three months at a time (although people can occupy them for shorter periods or apply for extensions), and twenty AIR Regions (or Artist in Resident Regions) which are granted to residents for a six month period.

Currently, applications are open for Round 13 of the AIR Land Grants (they close on May 3oth). That means that if you would like a full prim region on which you can build an installation, you can find out more and apply here.

LEA15 – Gardens By the Bay

So, in this episode, Designing Worlds takes a trip to the LEA to see what sort of installations and events people have used their LEA land grants to create.

Firstly, we travelled to the gateway region of LEA3 before exploring The Anthropic Principle, one of two fantastic installations created by Gem Preiz. Then we saw film and photos of a range of other installations (captured, of course, by Wildstar Beaumont!) before visiting the installation the Poetry of the Planets created by Caledonia Skytower.

Home and Garden 2016 – Prim Perfect Talks

Home and Garden 2016 – Prim Perfect Talks

Prim Perfect has run talks at the Home and Garden Expo since (gulp) 2011 … and we’d like to invite YOU to be a part of this year’s series of talks with designers, landscapers and creatives within the Home and Garden market.

These talks will take place inside the central auditorium on Hope 5.

We’re planning to host events at 2pm (and, if needed, 5pm) every day. If you would really LOVE to give a presentation, but can’t make that time, contact us and we will see if we can fit you in.

We are happy to host talks, presentations, interviews, question and answer sessions and show and tell events. It’s an opportunity for designers to share ideas, for people to meet their favourite creators, for communities to come together and talk about their culture and ideas. We’re very open to hosting what YOU want to tell us about!
