Entry for the Garden Contest

Entry for the Garden Contest

The event to support Elicio Ember, Filling the Cauldron, is in its final weekend now, and we’ve already raised a wonderful total of over £451,000  – but there is still a lot going on! Including shopping in the Market, bidding in the silent auctions, looking at the items listed for the Live Auctions … and coming tio some of the fantastic music, dance and story telling events that you’ll see listed on the schedule.

For example, you can still vote in the Garden Competition and really, you don’t want to miss the opportunity to visit the gardens! Nine talented Second Life residents have created gardens in salute to Elicio, using many of the fantastic plants and landscaping elements he has created. In some of the gardens there are places to sit and relax – and you’ll also find other seating areas where you can sit and contemplate …

Because this is a contest, and you can play a part in deciding the outcome!

We’re asking YOU to vote for the garden you most appreciate based on the following criteria:

  • Overall look and aesthetic
  • Use of Elicio’s creations
  • How much you enjoyed exploring each of them.

When you have decided, visit the voting form and use it tell us which of the gardens speaks to you the most. All the popular votes will be combined with votes from the judging panel to select three Gardens.

And then, in the finale, the one winning garden will be selected as the overall winner, by our Guest of Honour – Elicio Ember.

The winner will win the chance to build their garden as a special exhibit at the Second Life Home and Garden Expo, where it will be featured on the central region!

Then there’s the Photo Contest, which comes complete with some very special prizes.

Elicio’s store, Cerridwen’s Cauldron, offers a marvellous, magical setting both in the air and on the ground. We asked competitors to visit Cerridwen’s Cauldron and capture some of that magic. It doesn’t matter if they selected a part of the skyborne store or the ground-level landscape – they simply had to capture all or part of the region in a way that brings out its beauty and magic.

In return, we’re offering the following prizes:

  • 3rd place: items from Cerridwen’s Cauldron worth up to L$750
  • 2nd place: items from Cerridwen’s Cauldron worth up to L$1,000
  • 1st place: an original piece of real world art by Elicio himself, delivered to you in-world and to your home.

Entries are now closed – but it’s YOUR turn to visit the Flickr group and decide which of the entries you like best!

Mark the ones you like with a “Fave” star. Your faves will be combined with the votes from the judging panel and, like the Garden Contest, will be announced at 3pm SLT on Sunday 9th April at the Entertainment Center on Holly Kai.

At the moment, there is an auction going on for Feed a Smile, organised by the Mad Pea group (the people behind all those fabulous games) at the Mad City.  What’s up for auction is various Second Life personalities, some of whom are offering their company – but many of whom are offering their skill sets to those fortunate to win them.  For example, you could have a portrait taken by Strawberry Singh, a pair of boots by Cutea Benelli, work on a collaborative 2D artwork with Taralyn Gravois or a photography lesson with Ziki Questi, or a variety of options from Victor1st Mornington – including converting a basic prim home into mesh.

Also up for auction is me (Saffia) and – under his avatar name of Logan Ellsmere, none other than the the redoubtable Mr Biggins.  What will you get for a successful bid on either of us?

Mr Biggins up for sale!

Mr Biggins up for sale!

Mr Biggins is offering:

The winner will be able to nominate a building in New Babbage to be featured in a Designing Worlds show, or make a contribution to the script, or appear as a character (or possibly all three!).
Please note that these shows tend to be Christmas specials – so it might be a little time before you can take full advantage of your prize – although we will try to do one earlier!

And if you win the auction for Saffia?

I would help them promote their favourite place in Second Life, either through an article in Prim Perfect or with a Designing Worlds show, depending on what they would like to feature!

Saffia up for sale!

Saffia up for sale!

So if your bid for me is successful, you could have a Designing Worlds show (or a Prim Perfect article) about your favourite place or your organisation, or your business!

MadPea are hoping to raise over a million Linden through the auction. All week you can bid on the boards, and the event will finish on Saturday with a live auction and a day of entertainment! So come along and place your bid on the board!

PLEASE NOTE: This show was postponed from June 4th.

Join us at 2pm today, Monday 11th June, for a episode of Designing Worlds at our studio in Garden of Dreams where we look back at some of the amazing and beautiful builds on display at this year’s Home and Garden Expo.

Dutchie's Mesh Kitchen

Dutchie’s Mesh Kitchen

We’ll be talking to Nikki Mathieson, the Co-Ordinator of this huge event (14 regions this year – plus the entertainment sim and the breedables!), to Froukje Hoorenbeek of Dutchie (who was the sponsor of a largely mesh sim, set on a lovely Dutch polder), to Marina Ramer & Jaylin Whitewood of Aphrodite, who were displaying some of their pretty cottages, to Cierra Anatine, who was sponsoring a region with a decidedly medieval theme, and Saffia will be talking about her own sponsored region, which took the theme of Minton’s famous Blue Willow pattern china … and developed a special ceremony which you may have read about on the blog – and which you’ll have a chance to see here!

It makes for a fascinating show – so do come and join us at 2pm!

Watching the lanterns rise
