Inworldz welcomes SXSW

Inworldz welcomes SXSW

SXSW will be in InWorldz – from March 8th – 10th in 49 regions.

SXSW stands for South By Southwest and is a real life Conference of Technology, Music & Film which runs in Austin Texas annually – this year from March 8th – March 10th 2013.  They have a website you can visit here:  http://sxsw.com/

InWorldz Creators, Artists & Educators have composed a 49 sim display, sponsored by the founders of InWorldz, containing some featured builds from within their grid and are inviting visitors to the Coference to take some time to see them all, and return afterwards to become a part of Inworldz!

The Main sims and themes:
Sim A – Education
Sim B – Arts & Literature
Sim C – Entertainment
Sim D – Technology
Sim E – Physics
Sim F – Fantasy & Roleplay
Sim G – Transportation
Sim H – The Harbor- Boating & Nature

These 8 main featured sims will be part of a 49 sim block, many of which are scenic backdrops and “crossing sims” where vehicles will take you from one main sim to another.

Additionally they will be featuring some special builds in some of the surrounding sims as well.

These include Replicant City, Alchemy, Wizard Gynoid’s Temple of Sacred Geometry & E8 Polytope, a Mer Cove surrounding the Roleplay & Fantasy sim and a few backdrops from artistic creators. There are musical events happening from 8 am to 10 pm all 3 days with Live Performers, Djs and even Belly Dancing!

This event has so much to do and explore, to learn and to interact with. Of course the InWorldz grid is much larger, but they hope visitors walk away with a good sense that the  grid houses many wonderful things beyond what they see at the Conference.

Fuschia Nightfire's invisible avatar

Fuschia Nightfire’s invisible avatar

In addition to the opening of Rose Borchovski’s ‘The Arrival’ – which Rowan Derryth wrote about here yesterday – today also sees the launch of a new installation by Fuschia Nightfire – Winter Outlined, which sounds exciting … and rather fun.

I received this notice about it:

Gallery Graine’s Sculpture Garden is proud to announce the grand opening of Winter Outlined by Fuschia Nightfire, a sculptural ‘sketch’ of a winter scene, with an interesting use of invisible prims. This is an interactive installation, with a free outline avatar that you can wear to skate on the frozen water alongside the sculptured figures. Come and meet Fuschia and skate to the music of Whirli Placebo this Saturday January 12 from 12-2 PM SLT!

I ran into (and very nearly through) Fuschia herself a few days ago at Eliza’s Wierwight’s beautiful Patron. She was testing out the special invisible avatars – I was awestruck and couldn’t resist taking a few pictures which had fascinating effects on the land behind too …

This is, of course. part of a long and fascinating exploration that Fuschia has been carrying into identity.  We visited her beautiful black and white installation in Inworldz for the Designing Worlds. And now … being invisible is promising to be a lot of fun (and possibly a little chilly … You might even say downright crazy …

Our latest show in Inworldz is now on the web!

Join us as we journey to a different grid – Inworldz – to explore a very special new event in progress there – Relay for Life of Inworldz, which will reach its climax with a Relay Weekend on the 3rd and 4th November.

Although Relay for Life of Second Life is a huge event and raises millions of Lindens for the American Cancer Society every year, this is the first time that a full Relay program has been run in the much smaller Inworldz grid, with the backing of the ACS, and it’s fascinating to see how things are developing there – in some ways very similarly to the early Relay for Life in Second Life events.

We yalk to some of those involved, and some familiar names from Second Life (and from Relay for Life in Second Life), including Bain Finch, Nber Medici, and the well-known DJ Ayron Dagger, who spoke so movingly about a renewed fight against cancer during the Telethon this July. And wealso chat with Elenia Llewellyn, both about this event, and about how things are progressing in Inworldz.

Logo for Relay for Life in Inworldz 2012

This year, for the first time, the virtual world of InWorldz will have its own Relay For Life season. After more and more residents started to volunteer to raise funds in InWorldz, the American Cancer Society has stepped to give its official blessing to the initiative and to make official the very first Relay For Life of InWorldz.

Relay for Life in Inworldz will take place after Relay for Life in Second Life has concluded, so there will be no over-lap.  The Season in Inworldz will last from the 18th of August to the 3rd-4th of November (Relay Weekend) with a half-way event scheduled for the 22-23 September. A wrap up and closing party will take place on the 17th of November.

The theme for this year’s event – as you can see from the logo – is “Colors of Hope”.

The organizing committee is chaired by Fayandra Foley, a veteran of many Relay For Life Campaigns (twice event chair of RFL of SL), assisted by Eilidh McCullough – another popular figure of many RFL of SL seasons – as co-chair.

Many volunteers, both Inworldz natives and veterans with experience in RFL of SL, are contributing to the effort to make this first season a success.

A blog is under contruction at the address: http://inworldz-relayforlife.blogspot.com , and will be soon be operative with all the most relevant information and the latest news, including the list of events that are starting to be organized.

For further information please contact Wildstar Beaumont, PR&Marketing co-chair (wildstarbeaumont@gmail.com)

Dancing with statues at Meet the spiders at ‘Not Everything Is Plain Black & White’ in Inworldz

Dancing with statues at ‘Not Everything Is Plain Black & White’ in Inworldz

We visited Inworldz to explore a fascinating art installation by the artist Fuschia Nightfire – who is also well-known in Second Life.

‘Not Everything Is Plain Black & White’ and is being staged on the Falathrim region by Fleure Homewood. This is an immersive installation and – to help you become a part of it – Fuschia has supplied a range of hairs, clothing and skins freely available to visitors.

There is a path to follow and hidden corners to discover (it’s well worth braving the metallic spiders!). As we explore, Fuschia and Fleure talk to us about the installation, and about the capabilities of and advantages of building and showing Art in Inworldz.

(If the video fails to display here, see it at the Designing worlds site)

Vodpod videos no longer available.
