The latest episode of Designing Worlds – as we pay the second of two visits to the Home and Garden Expo, held annually in support of Relay for Life – is now on the web!

In this episode, we explore the amazing Hunt that was created by the Meeroos and Be You (as well as talking to one of the organisers behind the Be You project); take a look at some of the displays and designers at the Expo, including the work of Alia Baroque, Garvie Garzo, Kaerri Rae and we reveal the identity behind the designer known as Akahata, the creator of the new store “also Known as”.

Then we talk to some of the people who make the tools that designers use in creating the wonderful things we love to buy and use: full perm mesh template creator Lyrical Bizarre, texture maker Gerard Tunwarm, popularly known as Uncle Gerry, soundscape creator Meriadne Merlin and scripter Torgon Woodget.

Finally we end, of course, with shots of the tradional daily lantern release.

lanterns by Hannah Daviau

Throughout the Home and Garden Expo, there has been a daily release of lanterns from the roof of the theatre at Hope 5 at 4pm SLT.

Today there will be two special lantern releases – the first at 11am SLT, and the second at the usual time of 4pm SLT – the last lantern releases of the Expo.

This ceremony goes back to 2012, when Alchemy Immortalis created the Blue Willow lanterns especially for the Home and Garden Expo. It became the custom to release them each day at 4pm, and people would gather to watch and reflect as the lanterns rose slowly into the air.

Sometimes people speak, but often the event takes place in comparative silence – a break from the busyness (and the business) of the Expo – a time to reflect, remember and mourn.

We invite you to for this final day – and lantern releases – at 11am SLT and 4pm SLT for this ceremony.

Postponed from Wednesday:

You may have seen the molehill on Hope 2 – it’s pretty hard to miss!

If you’ve ventured inside (and we strongly suggest that you do!) you’ll find some fun dioramas of recent build by the Moles.

Who are the Moles?

The Moles are talented residents who are contracted by Linden Lab to join the Linden Department of Public Works (LDPW) and to work on builds that are, by and large, publicly accessible. They create the new user experiences; games and builds to celebrate the different season (Winterfair, the Halloween Tour, for example); special game regions (like one at the centre of the new Horizons regions, or Paleoquest) or simply things that are fun to find and explore, ranging from ancient castles to Greek villages to underwater ruins.

You can recognise Moles … by the fact that they have the surname “Mole”.

And now you can meet some Moles – and Patch Linden too – for yourselves at today’s talk in the Theatre on Hope 5 at 1pm SLT today. Please note that the Talk today is an hour earlier than usual.
