Issue 17 of Prim Perfect out now!

Prim Perfect Cover for May 2009: Issue 17
Prim Perfect Cover for May 2009: Issue 17

Two years ago, a new magazine was launched in Second Life – the very first magazine to take Homes and Gardens as its theme.  Perhaps that is not so surprising – in Second Life, new magazines launch regularly – and, sadly, seem to die almost as regularly.

This one, however, has gone from strength to strength … for it was Prim Perfect, and this issue we are delighted to celebrate our second birthday.

We’re doing this with the help of a major retrospective article on our first two years.  We review what appeared in each issue, and some of the many people who’ve appeared in our pages or worked with us on projects share their thoughts and memories.  And we have a special Moodyloner Korobase quiz for this issue – as well as a chance to try again the quiz from our very first issue!

And remember – if you realise you’ve missed an issue, you can always pick one up from our archive wall in Oliveto, or read them through the Calaméo browser.

Prim Perfect: Sim of the Month
Prim Perfect: Sim of the Month

Our Sims of the Month are the Confederation of Democratic Sims, a fascinating combination of themed quality builds and idealistic political experimentation.  Sigmund Leominster and Jvstin Tomorrow explore the sims and talk of their fascinating experiences and encounters with the locals.

Leyla Firefly is our Designer of the Month.  Ceejay Writer explores the Alpine chalet she furnished so beautifully and talks to Leyla herself about her career and her fascinating builds. And you will have a chance to win a month’s free accommodation there – if you enter our Star Competition – this month’s Treasure Hunt. You can also learn how our last month’s winner has found a beautiful home for a month in a gorgeous townhouse from the March issue.

We also have news of the exciting 2nd Annual Home, Garden and Patio Expo, organised in support of Relay for Life.  Read all about the plans for stands, educational events and entertainment that will be making this a must-go-to event!

Our Landcape of the Month is the winner of the Japanese section of the Second Life Readers’ Choice competition for Favourite Back In Time location – Edo Japan.  M0lly Dench tells us of the fun she had exploring Japanese history and culture, and the pictures her photographer Twisted Lemon brought back will have you hurrying there straightaway!

Prim Perfect: Landscape of the Month
Prim Perfect: Landscape of the Month

This month sees an exciting change in our sister TV programme, Meta Makeover – which received a Makeover of its own and is now emerging as Designing Worlds, with a brief to cover homes, gardens, landscapes, designers … and all that is best and most exciting in Virtual World design.

Our gardening correspondent, Kaye Robbiani, has some lovely ideas for a spring garden – with the emphasis on a rather unexpected sense -getting some good sounds in your garden!  Nikki Dreamscape has found some exciting new prefabs to share with you, while Gwen Carillon takes you through the process of filing a DCMA.

Plus there are articles to smooth our Second Lives from Qwis Greenwood and Ceejay Writer on how to smarten up our inventories, while Annechen Lowey gives some very useful advice on how to adjust attachments.

Our team of talented photographers bring you some of the most gorgeous design eye candy in Second Life!

All this – with News from the Grid … and more!

But, if you like to download your magazines to read as you commute to work, or in the bath, or wherever, you can also obtain a standard pdf for downloading and printing.

It is also available through XStreet (just search on the site for Prim Perfect). This will deliver you a copy in the form of a Thinc book that you can rez and read inworld.

We also have subscribe-o-matic kiosks throughout Second Life (these are taking over from our older vendors) – so you can just click to subscribe.  You’ll be sent a copy of the latest issue, and then you’ll receive your issues regularly!

Another inworld option is to buy from our inworld vendors (located at various stores). Sometimes we have had problems with these, but you can help! If you see a vendor still selling an earlier issue, contact primperfect@gmail.com, and we’ll send someone to update it.

Or you can have it delivered to you each month as a Thinc Book, by joining the Prim Perfect Readers group inworld. It costs nothing to join and, apart from delivering the magazine each month, we won’t overload you with chat or messages!

In addition to delivering the Thinc Book version of the magazine, you’ll also get a link to the online Calaméo version of the magazine, so you’ll be able to access that too.

  1. Hi, I downloaded the PDF, and when I opened it in Adobe Reader (version 8.1.4) and set it to display double pages side-by-side, it displayed the title page with the next one, and then every two pages after that (e.g. it would display pages 13 and 14 together), messing up any page that has an image spread across the double page.

I’m guessing there’s a flag “start the first page on the right-hand side” that you can set when exporting or something? Because I’m almost certain that I’ve seen PDF files that did the right thing in side-by-side mode (where the first page is on the right-hand side by itself, then pages 2 and 3 together, then 4 and 5, etc.).

Would be nice if you could fix this, if not for this issue, then for future ones! (Or if it’s user error, let me know which setting I have to change.)

  2. Thanks! That made it do what I expected. Now two-page spreads look the way they should.

I had switched to two-up mode through an icon in the toolbar, so I never even looked in that menu.

    Thanks again for the instructions!

  3. Hi PrimPerfect,

I just got the link to your magazine and realise that the frontcover of Issue 17 was taken in my home on ‘Locus amoenus’ on the C.D.S. sims.
I am very happy that my own build Roman home which is a pre-fab I sell on Locus Amoenus and on XLstreet at https://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&MerchantID=25227 has been deemed a good place for a cover photo.

I will be reading your magazine now that I know that it exists,

    Regards,

    Mizou Vavoom (Martine Y. Moeykens)
