Welcome—to a whole new incarnation of Prim Perfect!

You may have been wondering why you haven’t seen the magazine recently, and now you know why!

Over the summer we have been planning a complete redesign of Prim Perfect, both the magazine and the website, with the website becoming a portal for our blog, our magazine, and all our media productions, including Designing Worlds, Happy Hunting!, The Blackened Mirror, and The Quest for the Golden Prim.

The magazine has a whole new look—we have become squarer—but I think you’ll see, when you open it up, that there’s a whole new look to the pages, something that we’re very excited about!

Of course, we still keep the level of writing and information you’d expect. There are some of our favourite articles—and some exciting new ones too.

For example, we’re going to have a series of articles about controversial topics that Second Life residents argue about, and we’ve asked writers to put the cases for and against. First in the series we ask, “GACHAS: criminal ripoff or a way to play a fun game and take home adorable items?” Cain Maven and Alianna Logan put forward their arguments.

This issue sees the start of a new series which we’re planning to make highly interactive: Favourite Things. Each month, we’re asking you, our readers, to send us a brief account and a picture of something old or new that you love and would like to share with other readers. It’s a chance to give a boost to your favourite designer, so… why not take a look at the article—and then send yours in?

We’re also going to look under the bonnet at the workings of Second Life. We’re starting this with a series on animations: what they are and how they’re used. We start with a look at basic animations and animation overrides written by Beq Janus.

Our Designer of the Month is Froukje Hoorenbeek of Dutchie, whose amazing house, created over the last two years, is also a focus for a full photo feature. Joonie Jatho has interviewed Froukje and explored the house, while Judith LeFevre has created the photo feature.

Honour Macmillan has explored an interesting Region of the Month: the Cornfield, which has a long and interesting history in Second Life (read the article to learn more!). Now it is the location for trials of new tools for Second Life—how effective and engaging are they?

Qwis Greenwood continues to explore Second Life to discover small and niche designers who create interesting and unique items that we think you should get to know. This month she finds a store that caters to artists, photographers, and videographers, as well as instructors of training classes and leaders of business meetings.

There’s a beautiful new room design from Samantha Ohrberg, highlighting the skills of mesh designers… and if you would like to start working with mesh, we are re-running Beq Janus’s brilliant series on mesh.

There’s news of our annual event, Cake Against Cancer, a virtual world event in support of Macmillan Cancer Support’s fundraiser, the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning!

There’s another in our series of restaurant reviews, this time with a visit to a very special 1950s diner. And you can catch up on news about our TV shows: Designing Worlds, Happy Hunting!, and The Blackened Mirror.

Our team of talented photographers, led by Wildstar Beaumont, Judith LeFevre, and Honour McMillan, bring you some of the most artistic eye candy from across the metaverse.

All this with News From the Grid and more!
